Mumbai: BMC Corporators Seek 67 Per Cent Hike In Ward Development Fund From ₹60 Lakh To ₹1 Crore

Mumbai's civic corporators are seeking a significant 67% increase in their annual ward development fund from the current Rs 60 lakh to Rs 1 crore. This proposal, moved by BJP corporator Ashwini Mate, comes in response to the rising costs of civic works and the increased need for essential services like road repairs, sanitation, and public toilets.

The corporators argue that the current allocation is insufficient to meet these demands, citing the growing population, inflation, and rising material and labor costs as factors exacerbating the situation. Sachin Padwal, a senior corporator from Shiv Sena (UBT), echoed these concerns, stating that the existing allocation is inadequate and needs to be substantially increased.

The corporators also highlighted that a significant portion of the allocated fund is lost due to GST and other BMC charges before the actual work begins. The Congress party has also supported the proposal, emphasizing that the corporator fund is crucial for carrying out civic works in each ward.
