Mir Raza murder case: Post-mortem report rules findings 'inconsistent' with suicide

Karachi: The conclusive findings of the second autopsy on Mir Raza Ali, a 25-year-old businessman, indicated a gunshot wound to the back and confirmed that the manner of his death was inconsistent with suicide. Ali went missing on July 28, and his body was discovered in Gulistan-i-Jauhar the subsequent day. The controversy surrounding his death arose from police's initial assumption that he took his own life.

The Exhumation Board unanimously determined that the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the chest, resulting in cardiac rupture. The forensic report, based on DNA analysis, confirmed Ali as the biological son of Mir Hussain Ali and Marium Hussain. The Sindh High Court (SHC) reserved its decision on a plea seeking the formation of a joint investigation team (JIT) in the case.

Ali's family had argued against the decision to form a judicial commission and demanded a JIT instead. The Sindh advocate general and other officials appeared before the court, with the counsel for Ali's family alleging that police personnel had destroyed evidence and failed to record statements. The court reserved its order on the petition.
