Mir Raza murder case: Post-mortem report rules findings 'inconsistent' with suicide

Karachi: The conclusive determination of the second post-mortem examination for the Mir Raza Ali murder case contradicted suicide as the cause of Ali's death, as the post-mortem findings were inconsistent with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the police surgeon's office. Ali, a 25-year-old businessman hailing from Karachi, was discovered deceased with a gunshot wound in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on July 29 following his disappearance on July 28.

The case has been contentious due to the police's initial assumption of suicide, which was subsequently questioned by post-mortem results. The report, delivered by the Karachi Police Surgeon, declared that the deceased's demise was due to a gunshot wound to the back, which caused a cardiac rupture. The entry wound was located on the posterior thorax (back), while the exit wound was found on the anterior thorax (front of the chest).

The report confirmed that the manner of death did not align with suicide. The Sindh High Court (SHC) also deferred its judgment on a request for a joint investigation team (JIT) in the case, with Ali's family arguing that police mishandled the investigation and potentially concealed crucial evidence. The case has been surrounded by controversy since its inception, with Ali's family alleging they were victims of kidnapping, torture, and murder, while police maintained the possibility of suicide. The SHC's decision to reserve its order on the family's plea remains pending.
