Meru MCA defends Kawira Mwangaza’s impeachment role after Linda Mwananchi rally booing

Meru Member of County Assembly (MCA) Mwenda Ithili has clarified his role in the impeachment of former Governor Kawira Mwangaza amidst controversy surrounding his reception during the Linda Mwananchi rally tour in Meru. Ithili defended his actions, stating he acted in Meru residents' best interests following his impeachment of Mwangaza in 2024.

He clarified that he received a hostile reception during the tour due to planned efforts to boo him in certain locations, like Githongo and Nkubu, orchestrated by those linked to Mwangaza. Ithili also mentioned that some parts of Meru were excluded during the tour due to opposition from Mwangaza's supporters. Despite facing criticism, Ithili insists that his participation in the impeachment should not politically disadvantage him, emphasizing that financial resources do not determine a leader's influence.

He also pointed out that even opposition leaders like Sifuna, who lacks significant funding, still garner support. This recent clarification escalates political tensions between Ithili and Mwangaza, stemming from Ithili's opposition to Mwangaza's leadership during her tenure as Governor. Ithili, who joined the Linda Mwananchi movement to protect Meru residents' interests, is now navigating a complex political landscape amid the mixed reception within the movement.
