Medeama beat Nations FC to win Champion of Champions

Medeama SC clinched an early victory in the 2026 Champion of Champions tournament by defeating Nations FC 2-0 at TNA Park in Tarkwa. The match, held on the opening weekend of the 2026-27 Ghana Premier League season, saw the Ghanian champions take the lead in the 28th minute after Nations FC was penalized for a handball inside the penalty area.

Medeama's Fatawu Sulemana converted the resulting penalty kick to give the hosts the first goal. With a commanding performance after halftime, Medeama sealed their win through former Nations FC player Emmanuel Annor, who scored a decisive second goal to double the lead. This early triumph marked Medeama's first piece of silverware of the new season, ahead of a challenging campaign that includes potential continental football.

The team now turns its focus to the CAF Champions League, where they will host DR Congo's TP Mazembe in a preliminary-round match on September 6th. Meanwhile, FA Cup holders Nations FC also begins their African campaign this week, traveling to Mali to face Diarra FC in the opening leg of their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary-round tie on September 5th.
