Lilly’s Taltz and Zepbound combination shows sustained results at one year

Indianapolis-based Eli Lilly reported on Monday that the combination of their drugs Taltz and Zepbound continued to show positive effects on disease activity and weight loss in adults with psoriatic conditions and obesity after one year of treatment, as detailed in two Phase 3b clinical trials. TOGETHER-PsO involved 274 participants with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis, while TOGETHER-PsA included 271 individuals with active psoriatic arthritis who also had obesity or overweight along with at least one other weight-related health issue.

At the 52-week mark, 30.6% of patients in the TOGETHER-PsO trial achieved complete skin clearance and a 10% or greater weight loss when taking both drugs, compared to only 4.4% for those on Taltz alone. In the TOGETHER-PsA trial, 39.2% of patients on the combined therapy experienced at least a 50% reduction in disease activity and a 10% weight loss reduction, whereas only 1.7% of the Taltz-only group saw similar results.

Complete skin clearance was observed in 40.5% of the combination therapy patients in TOGETHER-PsO after one year, compared to 29.1% for those on Taltz alone. In the TOGETHER-PsA trial, 43.7% of the patients on the combined treatment achieved a 50% reduction in disease activity, versus 15.7% for those on Taltz alone. Most adverse events from the combination therapy were mild to moderate, with the most frequently reported side effects being nausea, diarrhea, constipation, injection site reactions, vomiting, dizziness, and headaches.

Taltz, a monoclonal antibody, targets the interleukin 17A cytokine, while Zepbound is a dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist used for weight management. Eli Lilly stated that the detailed 52-week results would be presented at upcoming medical conferences and published in peer-reviewed journals.
