Kano Assembly passes Economic Planning and Development Council Bill into law

The Kano State House of Assembly has recently approved the Kano State Economic Planning and Development Council Bill 2026. This development was announced in a statement issued by the Assembly’s Information Officer, Tasi’u Jibo Dawanau. The bill was passed during a plenary session on Monday, under the Chairmanship of Speaker Jibril Isma'il Falgore.

According to the statement, the primary objective of this legislation is to enhance economic planning, coordination, and development throughout the state. Lawan Husaini, the Majority Leader of the House and member representing Dala Constituency, expressed his support for the bill, stating that the proposed council would be instrumental in creating programs for Kano State's economic growth and coordinating developmental activities between the state and its 44 local government areas.

Husaini further revealed that the council would be presided over by the governor and include five commissioners, along with the chairmen of the 44 local government councils, and five esteemed individuals with backgrounds in education and economic affairs. The intention behind this legislation is multi-faceted, seeking to tackle youth unemployment, boost revenue generation, and reinvigorate manufacturing activities as part of broader efforts to promote the socio-economic development of Kano State.
