Kalen DeBoer names Alabama's starting punter ahead of Week 1

Alabama Crimson Tide coach Kalen DeBoer announced Alex Asparuhov as the team's starting punter ahead of their Week 1 game, according to a press conference held Monday. Asparuhov secured the position during fall camp, outpacing North Alabama transfer Adam Watford. The Alabama sophomore will be making his second season debut in Tuscaloosa, following a year of serving as the team's backup.

During last fall's campaign, Asparuhov appeared in just one game, playing behind the starter, Blake Doud, and did not record any statistics. Ranked as the nation's No. 12 punter in the 2025 class by 247Sports composite rankings, Asparuhov was also considered a three-star recruit from San Joaquin Memorial High School in California.
