Internet Starts Recovering in Phases in Azad Jammu and Kashmir

Internet services in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) have begun to be restored in stages across eight districts, following a request from the state government to the federal Ministry of Interior. The restoration process initially covers DSL and 3G/4G services in selected areas, though access will remain restricted in some regions to educational institutions and banks.

Muzaffarabad Division has seen the start of restoration, with varied availability in Muzaffarabad district, where DSL connectivity is limited to educational institutions and banks. Bagh city and Dhirkot will experience limited DSL services for educational institutions and banks, while Haveli Kahuta will see the full return of both DSL and 3G/4G internet services.

Mirpur and Bhimber will have DSL services available throughout the districts, whereas Kotli will only see DSL connectivity for educational institutions and banks, excluding Sensa, Sarsawa, Baloch, and Tattapani. Rawalakot and Sudhnoti will continue to lack internet access. The restoration framework allows for internet access in other districts, subject to conditions from the AJK Home Department.

The directive was issued on August 30, with implementation beginning on August 31. Educational institutions and bank officials have been asked to provide affidavits confirming the lawful use of restored internet services, ensuring they do not violate state interests, national security, or public order. The AJK Home Department has also directed authorities to provide DSL/GPON connection details for whitelisting and monitoring purposes.
