“In intercepts, they’re screaming”: Russia occupied this spit to control Ukraine’s ports. Military says it has now isolated 2,500-strong grouping and destroyed all its artillery

Ukrainian forces have encircled approximately 2,500 Russian soldiers on the Kinburn Spit, a narrow peninsula in the Black Sea. By employing systematic drone strikes and remote mining, they have severed the Russian supply lines and obliterated the majority of their artillery on the spit. The Kinburn Spit, which has been under Russian control since 2022, is strategically significant as it provides access to the coastal zones of Mykolaiv Oblast.

Former head of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration, Vitali Kim, noted that Russia retains artillery on the spit to bombard the southern coast.

The Russian force now has only a single land route to reach the Mykolaiv Oblast, a corridor that must be continuously patrolled by Ukrainian troops. The troops aim to neutralize all assets that enter the Kinburn Spit. Intercepts have revealed panic within the Russian units, as they struggle with logistics and ammunition shortages. The troops emphasize that the spit serves as a trap for the Russian forces, with the road severed and their supply routes being mined.

A significant challenge for Ukrainian soldiers is the Russian soldiers' habit of disguising themselves as civilians, which complicates the timing of strikes. The troops' primary tactic is to disrupt Russian logistics through mining their routes. One reconnaissance unit commander, referred to as "Yava," explained that the Russian presence is dwindling as they cannot effectively resupply or maintain operations.

The situation on the Kinburn Spit has evolved into a grim situation for the Russian forces, with their ability to deliver anything effective into the region being severely constrained.
