GTA 6 Gameplay: Every New Detail From the Netflix Reveal

Grand Theft Auto VI, or GTA 6 for short, was unveiled to the world through a 26-minute presentation by Rockstar Games and Netflix on August 28th. The event showcased new gameplay footage of the highly anticipated game, which is set to release on November 19, 2026. Rockstar confirmed that the game will run at 30 frames per second on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, though performance on other consoles remains unclear.

The centerpiece of the reveal was the story of two returning protagonists, Jason and Lucia, as they navigate Vice City's criminal underworld. The game features over 600,000 individual animations for non-player characters, a significant improvement from GTA V's 55,000 animations. This allows for more realistic movements, such as a character's necklace swaying realistically with every movement.

The game also doubles as a genuine love story between Jason and Lucia, with optional missions centered around strengthening their relationship through shared heists, salon visits, or shopping trips. The game includes a radial menu for quick item selection, incoming text messages with emojis that can impact a character's mood, and a mechanic called "invocation" that lets players swap between characters even when together on screen.

GTA 6's wanted system now escalates to six stars, and live-streaming while fleeing police appears as an actual in-game option. The studio also refined familiar mechanics such as bullet-time shooting, rather than abandoning them entirely. Despite the leak of unofficial development footage beforehand, Rockstar and Netflix chose to premiere the reveal as a timed streaming exclusive on Netflix, raising questions about the decision prioritizing corporate synergy over the waiting community.
