GNFS intensifies fire safety campaigns across Eastern Region

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has ramped up fire safety awareness and inspections in the Eastern Region to curb fire incidents and enhance public readiness for emergencies. These initiatives were launched in key locations such as Akropong, Asamankese, and Suhum.

In Akropong, firefighters engaged in door-to-door and street-level teachings ahead of the Akuapem Ridge Odwira and Ohum festivities. Residents were taught about electrical safety, proper handling of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), the perils of unattended cooking and careless burning. The team also emphasized the right use of fire extinguishers and the necessity of promptly reporting fire incidents to the relevant authorities.

Meanwhile, in Asamankese, the Fire Safety Education Team carried out a four-day outreach targeted at health facilities, religious institutions, professional associations, and other public and private establishments. The aim was to heighten awareness of fire hazards and encourage the implementation of suitable safety practices in workplaces and public areas.

In the Suhum Municipality, the Fire Command conducted fire safety education and inspections at shops and homes in New Life. They focused on LPG safety, electrical dangers, storage of flammable materials, and the necessity of clear evacuation plans. The team also highlighted the risks linked to welding and fitting activities, including sparks, fuel, oil, overloaded sockets, inadequate housekeeping, and obstructed exits.

The GNFS underscored the significance of maintaining unobstructed escape paths and ensuring that households and businesses are fully prepared to react swiftly to fire emergencies. This intensified drive is part of the Service's broader mission to foster a culture of fire prevention and diminish fire-related occurrences throughout the region.
