GAFM demands retraction from GTEC over ‘unrecognised universities’ listing

The Global Academy of Finance and Management (GAFM-USA) has demanded that the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) retract a listing of GAFM as an unrecognized university and apologize publicly. The organization maintains that it is not a university and does not award degrees, but instead provides industry certifications. GAFM claims that media platforms sourced this information from GTEC, causing reputational harm.

The professional body asserts that GTEC erred by mixing a professional certification body with an academic university, demonstrating a lack of understanding of the distinction. GAFM also accuses GTEC of publishing the list without proper verification, alleging institutional incompetence on the Commission's part. The Commission's mandate is to accredit tertiary institutions and academic programs, while GAFM's certifications are industry-based and thus outside GTEC's regulatory scope.

Despite calling for a retraction and apology, GAFM offers to comply with any regulations or oversight protocols established by GTEC for professional bodies. The organization welcomes constructive regulation but rejects labeling it as defamatory. GAFM has instructed its legal team to pursue legal action if no retraction and apology occur within 14 days.

The board urges members and certificate holders in Ghana to remain calm while it pursues legal, diplomatic, and administrative solutions to resolve the matter.
