Fuel prices set to go up from September 1, Petrol to sell at GHC 16.69 and Diesel, GHC 17.90 – COMAC

Fuel prices in Ghana are set to increase on September 1, 2026, with petrol prices rising to GHC 16.69 per litre and diesel increasing to GHC 17.90 per litre, according to the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC). This is an adjustment made due to rising international crude oil prices and increased costs for finished petroleum products.

The Cedi, Ghana's currency, has appreciated by 3.64% against the US dollar, strengthening to GH¢11.3697 per US$. This appreciation has reversed three consecutive pricing windows of depreciation and marked its strongest level since June 2026. Despite this, the projected price increases in fuel reflect the rising global crude oil and refined product prices.

The government has intervened to moderate diesel price increases, capping the price at GHC 17.60 per litre. This intervention was driven by concerns over potential price hikes at the pumps in the upcoming pricing window. The government has also raised the price floor for various petroleum products from September 1 to 16, 2026, with petrol sold at GH¢14.53 and diesel at a new floor of GH¢15.60 per litre. LPG prices have been reduced from GHC 10.98 to GHC 10.85 per kilogramme.
