From midnight to noon, Hospital Tunku Azizah welcomes 12 Merdeka babies including twin girls

On August 31, Hospital Tunku Azizah in Kuala Lumpur welcomed 12 newborns, including a set of twin girls, on National Day. The six newborn boys and six newborn girls were delivered between midnight and noon, marking a special occasion for the hospital. Hospital director Dr Shamsul Anuar Kamarudin emphasized that a birth on National Day is not only significant but also symbolizes life, hope, and the future of the nation. He spoke of the occasion during the HTA 2026 Merdeka Baby celebration.

For Nor Asyikin Mat Zain, 29, delivering her second child on National Day added extra meaning to the event. Her first child was born on January 1, making her delivery two days after her son. She expressed pride in the births of both children on dates of great significance. Meanwhile, Siti Zulaikha Mohd Jasni, 33, became the first mother at HTA to deliver a Merdeka baby this year.

Her baby boy weighed 2.78 kilogrammes and was born via caesarean section at 12.05am, even though his due date was September 8. The early birth made August 31 a particularly meaningful date for her family. Rajeah Amud, 32, also experienced great joy as her first child, a baby girl, arrived naturally at 7:55am on National Day, despite her expected due date being September 8.
