Financial irregularities in some state institutions drop significantly to GHC 7.69 billion in 2025 – Nyarko Ampem

Financial irregularities in five audited sectors of Ghana's public institutions have declined by 62.9 percent, from approximately GH¢20.72 billion in 2024 to GH¢7.69 billion in 2025, Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem has reported. The reduction, which amounts to roughly GH¢13.03 billion, surpasses the government's goal of cutting financial irregularities by 50 percent in 2025.

Mr. Ampem shared these findings during an engagement session with chief directors, chief executive officers, and heads of the audited entities. "I am pleased to report that, taken together, financial irregularities across these five sectors declined from approximately GH¢20.72 billion in 2024 to GH¢7.69 billion in 2025," he stated.

This represents a notable improvement, exceeding the target by 12.9 percentage points. Mr. Ampem highlighted that the 62.9 percent reduction demonstrates the effectiveness of deliberate efforts towards public financial management, stronger controls, and increased accountability. The engagement session focused on the Auditor-General's reports and the crucial role of heads of public institutions in reinforcing compliance, addressing identified shortcomings, and preventing future financial irregularities.
