‘Eyes swollen, eardrums damaged’: 3-year-old boy assaulted at Delhi play school, attendant arrested

Police have arrested an attendant and served a notice to a teacher at a play school in northeast Delhi following an alleged assault on a three-year-old boy, it was reported on Sunday. The child's parents noticed bruises on his arms and face on August 16, which led to a medico-legal test and the filing of a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Juvenile Justice Act.

The child's father told The Indian Express that following the incident, the child experienced swollen eyes and damaged eardrums. The father alleged that the school authorities initially denied their claims but later shared CCTV footage, showing the child being tied to a chair for three hours and beaten by the attendant, and slapped by a teacher.

The family also claims that the child was slapped and punched by school staff on other days. The FIR was filed on August 27, naming the school owner and principal as accused persons. Delhi police sources said they are questioning the attendant and the teacher will be questioned soon, with other school administrators also being asked to cooperate in the probe.
