EPL: Sons of fallen police officer lead Man United team as mascots

Two sons of Police Officer Matthew Blades, killed in a crash on Teesside, led Manchester United as mascots during Sunday's Premier League match against Ipswich at Old Trafford. Blades, a dedicated fan of the club, was often spotted at Old Trafford. The club honored him in the match program, while his wife attended the game with their children.

Blades and his colleague, PC Tom Clough, died in a head-on collision on August 22nd, resulting in the deaths of five individuals in the opposing vehicle. United expressed their profound sadness upon learning of the officers' deaths. The tribute to Blades included a statement from the club praising him as a "proud Red," a devoted family man, and a police officer who devoted his life to serving others.

At Elland Road, where Leeds United played Brentford, match officials wore black armbands in memory of Blades, who was a friend of PC Clough. Before the match against Middlesbrough, a minute's applause was observed in honor of the fallen officers. Pictures of the two officers were displayed on a screen, and fans gathered to pay their respects.

Seaton Carew FC also paid tribute to Blades, having coached their junior teams. Thirty-seven individuals were arrested in connection with the investigation into the crash, increasing the total number of arrests to 24.
