EFCC sacks 40 staff over corruption, says Olukoyede

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, announced on Monday that over 40 staff members have been dismissed for corruption and financial malpractice since he took office. More than five of these dismissed officers are currently being prosecuted, while case files for others are being prepared for prosecution.

During a briefing at the EFCC's headquarters in Abuja, Olukoyede emphasized that the commission will not protect its personnel from prosecution if they engage in corrupt practices. He clarified that while other agencies may arrest and prosecute individuals for such offenses, the EFCC would dismiss them if they engaged in corruption within their own system.

Some of the affected personnel are already facing trial, while the commission is preparing case files against others. The EFCC has renamed its former Department of Internal Affairs as the Department of Ethics and Integrity, part of its efforts to strengthen internal accountability. Olukoyede also revealed that the commission has developed a gift policy for its personnel, requiring them to declare assets above a specific threshold and the types of gifts they can accept.
