Delhi gangrape on moving bus: DCW chairperson says culprits ‘must get punishment’

Delhi's Women Commission chairperson Lata Gupta harshly criticized the gangrape of a 16-year-old girl on a moving bus, demanding that the perpetrators face severe consequences. "The person behind this must get punishment," she declared, after the arrest of the bus driver and conductor, Kuldeep and Sandeep, and the seizure of the vehicle.

Gupta emphasized the need for better coordination among agencies handling such cases, be it with courts or the police administration. The teenage victim, a Class 11 student from Uttar Pradesh, had boarded the bus seeking assistance due to heavy rain and a family disagreement. She was subsequently raped by the bus driver and conductor after mistakenly getting off at Pari Chowk and being deceived about the bus's destination.

The incident occurred on August 4 in Delhi, with the attackers fleeing the scene. Police stated that the duo had been sent to Timarpur for repairs and were unaware of the girl's presence. Monu Gupta, the manager of the bus company, confirmed their involvement in the bus's repair journey but added that they had not anticipated the tragic events unfolding.
