Boakye Agyarko campaign denies rift with Bawumia ahead of NPP chairman election

The campaign team for Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko, the National Patriotic Party (NPP) national chairman candidate, has denied rumors of a rift between him and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the party's flagbearer. A press statement released on August 30 in Accra stated that the campaign also rejected accusations of the NPP attributing collective achievements to individual accomplishments before the party's national executive elections on October 3.

Spokesperson Vincent Frimpong Manu explained that Agyarko instructed his team not to target any fellow candidates. Agyarko, who has served the party since 1992, has held various positions including chairing the Danquah-Busia Club of North America, serving as the party's North America Coordinator, and as National Campaign Manager for the 2012 general election.

The campaign emphasized his support for Bawumia, stating that Agyarko would not interfere with the flagbearer's work, and that the national chairman is responsible for building and managing the party machinery. Agyarko himself stated that his candidacy is not a stepping stone for a future presidential bid. He affirmed that his independence would allow him to serve as a fair leader, unite party factions, and reconcile supporters of other candidates.

The campaign promised to release a separate statement outlining Agyarko's plans if elected, and that the party's delegates would ultimately decide the outcome on October 3 based on the candidates' records.
