Akufo-Addo urges NPP factions to unite behind Bawumia ahead of 2028 election

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged the various factions within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to set aside their differences and unite behind their party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, ahead of the 2028 general election. Akufo-Addo emphasized that unity among the party’s members would be crucial for the NPP’s efforts to regain power, calling on the newly elected national executives to cooperate and bring all factions together.

This appeal came during a meeting with Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an NPP Director of Communications hopeful, who had come to formally announce his intention to contest the position. Akufo-Addo recognized that competition among aspirants would naturally arise in the upcoming internal elections, but he stressed that the focus should shift towards rebuilding the party and preparing for victory post-elections.

"The elections bring competition; when the die is cast on October 1, and I am confident you will win, you have to bring everybody on board and unite all factions in this party behind our flagbearer to make sure he gets onto the seat in 2029," Akufo-Addo stated. He also highlighted the communications portfolio as a particularly challenging area for the NPP’s reconstruction, underlining that effective communication would be vital to the party’s chances of returning to government.

Aboagye was urged to leverage this opportunity ahead of the 2028 elections and work collaboratively towards re-establishing the NPP in power.
