Better supply management led to fuel quota restoration, says ministry

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim revealed that the monthly fuel subsidy quota under Malaysia's BUDI Madani programme will be increased to 300 litres starting tomorrow. The decision, according to the finance ministry, can be attributed to better supply management. The increase in quota, from 200 litres to 300 litres each month for BUDI95 and BUDI Diesel recipients, also took into account strict enforcement, solid economic performance, and the government's financial capability.

The move was not only aimed at those who travel long distances daily but also small traders who rely on vehicles for their livelihood.

The finance ministry stated that the Madani government remains committed to directing fuel subsidies to eligible Malaysians while intensifying efforts to combat leakages, smuggling, and misuse. Prior to the increase, the monthly BUDI95 quota had been cut down to 200 litres back in April 1 due to higher global crude prices and supply chain issues stemming from the West Asia conflict.

Approximately 16 million users receive subsidised RON95 at a price of RM1.99 per litre, while over 700,000 individuals are also eligible for subsidised diesel at RM2.10 per litre. Furthermore, more than half a million eligible private diesel vehicle owners, primarily driving pickup trucks and jeeps, could apply for an additional 100 litres monthly, elevating their total monthly entitlement to 400 litres.

Those who have not yet applied for the extra quota can do so via the BUDI Madani portal. For pickup truck and jeep owners who were previously approved for the added 100 litres, their entitlement will automatically be adjusted to 400 litres starting from September 1.
