Bengaluru to restrict certain vehicles on 5 major flyovers from Sept. Check new rules

The Bengaluru traffic police have announced plans to restrict certain vehicles on five major flyovers starting September 4. The announcement was made in a statement on Sunday, detailing the specific restrictions that will be enforced on each flyover. Karthik Reddy, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Bengaluru, highlighted the key considerations in making these decisions, including road safety, road design, reducing accident severity, mitigating traffic congestion, and enhancing overall road safety.

One of the impacted flyovers is the BGS flyover, where heavy goods vehicles will be prohibited from using it. Passenger and goods auto-rickshaws will also face restrictions, with traffic only allowed between 7 am and 11 am and 4 pm and 10 pm daily. On the Peenya elevated corridor, passenger and goods auto-rickshaws are completely prohibited, while heavy and medium goods vehicles will not be permitted from 7 am to 11 am and 4 pm to 10 pm.

The International airport flyover will see restrictions on two-wheelers and autorickshaws, with all categories of goods vehicles restricted from 6 am to 10 pm. The Double-decker flyover will become off-limits to heavy goods vehicles entirely. Meanwhile, on the Electronic City elevated corridor, goods vehicles are banned from 6 am to 10 pm. Additionally, two-wheelers, as well as both passenger and goods autorickshaws, are barred from using the route entirely.

The restrictions on all other flyovers will be implemented from September 4. However, the restrictions on the Electronic City elevated corridor will not take effect until September 11, as per the traffic police's announcement.
