The Malaysian government has decided to increase the subsidy quota for fuel under the Budi Madani program, starting tomorrow, according to Finance Minister Datuk Seri Fong Chor Meng. The ministry announced that the monthly subsidy will rise from 200 liters to 300 liters for Budi Madani RON95 and Budi Madani Diesel recipients. This decision takes into account the need to strengthen economic performance and the financial capabilities of the government, while also addressing the needs of the public who often travel long distances for daily activities and small businesses reliant on vehicles for income.

The government aims to continue supplying fuel subsidies to deserving Malaysians while strengthening efforts to curb leakage, fraud, and misuse. On the same day, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced the return of fuel subsidy quota under Budi Madani to 300 liters, marking one of six initiatives announced to mark Malaysia's 69th Independence Day.

This move also aims to alleviate the burden on the public. Prior to this, the government temporarily reduced the base efficiency of BUDI95 from 300 liters to 200 liters starting April 1, following uncertainties in fuel supply due to regional conflicts. According to MoF, 16 million users enjoy subsidized RON95 at RM1.99 per liter, while over 700,000 can also benefit from subsidized diesel at RM2.10 per liter.

Notably, half a million private and commercial vehicle owners are eligible to apply for an additional 100 liters per month, which could increase their monthly allowance to 400 liters. Eligible private and commercial truck and van owners who have not applied can do so through the Budi Madani portal at www.budimadani.gov.my. Those who have already been approved for the additional 100 liters will see their allowances automatically adjusted to 400 liters starting September 1.
