Beach holidays, historical sites draw crowds on second National Day holiday

On August 30, the second day of Vietnam's National Day holiday, coastal destinations and historical sites saw a surge in visitors, causing minor traffic delays in certain regions. Tourists flocked to Ho Chi Minh City's beaches, including Vung Tau, Tam Thang, Long Hai, and Ho Tram. By midday, lines of cars formed at popular spots like Bai Sau, Tam Thang Square, Thuy Van Park, and Bai Truoc. To manage the influx, Vung Tau's local government announced a tourism order force to assist and guide visitors.

In Hanoi, famous landmarks like the Thang Long Imperial Citadel, Temple of Literature–Quoc Tu Giam, Hoa Lo Prison, and Ngoc Son Temple remained busy with both local and foreign tourists. To boost tourism, the city offered free admission to 17 historical sites until September 2 and provided free rides on 128 subsidized bus routes and specific sections of urban railways. Accommodation providers were also advised to be transparent with pricing and cancellation policies.

Khanh Hoa Province's Nha Trang saw a 40 percent year-on-year increase in visitors, particularly for sea tours. The Po Nagar Cham Towers welcomed around 9,000 visitors, while the National Oceanographic Museum, VinWonders Nha Trang, Long Son Pagoda, and Hon Chong also drew large crowds. On the morning of August 30, traffic congestion extended for about 10 kilometers on the Ho Chi Minh City–Long Thanh–Dau Giay Expressway, but eased by the afternoon.

Ferry terminals in Ho Chi Minh City increased services, with Binh Khanh and Cat Lai terminals deploying more vessels. The Saigon River bus and Bus Route No. 2 also saw enhanced frequency until 10 p.m. The Traffic Police Department recorded 46 accidents nationwide, resulting in 21 fatalities and 30 injuries, with nearly 2,000 violations linked to alcohol and over 3,200 due to speeding. Traffic on 15 expressways rose by nearly 60 percent during the holiday, averaging more than 320,000 vehicle trips daily.
