AU backs new Sudanese-led dialogue to end conflict

The African Union Commission has expressed support for a new Sudanese-led dialogue aimed at ending the country's ongoing armed conflict. In a statement on Monday, the Commission emphasized the importance of bringing together all civil, political, and societal stakeholders to work towards peace and stability. Since the crisis began in April 2023, the AU Commission has been actively engaged in bridging divisions among Sudanese stakeholders and fostering an environment conducive to dialogue, unity, and democratic governance.

The Commission is confident that the proposed initiative, supervised by an independent committee of Sudanese elders, will lead to a united, sovereign, and peaceful Sudan governed by civilian institutions and effective national security mechanisms.
