Army Secretary Dan Driscoll has tendered his resignation amid reported tensions with Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth, the Pentagon announced on Monday. Driscoll, who serves as the second-ranking official at the Department of the Army, had reportedly been considering leaving the Pentagon due to reported friction with Hegseth. A White House spokesperson praised Driscoll's contributions to President Trump's agenda, highlighting his leadership during significant military operations, his focus on readiness and lethality, and his role in negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.

The resignation follows months of turmoil at the defense department, including investigations into leaks, budget issues, and the departure of several senior officials, including former Army Chief of Staff Randy George in April. Driscoll, an Iraq War veteran and tech investor, had previously worked as an adviser to JD Vance. He was nominated by President Trump in 2024 and was confirmed by the Senate in February 2025.

Driscoll's resignation comes as the Army faces a range of challenges, from modernizing its systems to improving recruiting and the military industrial base.
