AI programme to equip 100,000 youths for changing job market, says HR minister

The AI for the People Programme, aimed at equipping 100,000 youths aged 18 to 30, is a crucial step in preparing Malaysia's workforce for the rapidly evolving job market, according to Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan. Ramanan emphasized that access to artificial intelligence (AI) technology is essential to ensure that young people possess relevant skills for today's job market and do not fall behind in global technological advancements.

He stated, "The world of employment is rapidly changing. AI, automation and digitalisation are no longer matters for the future, but have become part of today's job market." The initiative complements the Human Resources Ministry's (Kesuma) efforts to enhance workforce skills through programs like the MyMahir AI Roadshow, which provides free AI training to over 22,000 Malaysians with a budget of nearly RM110 million through Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp).

Ramanan highlighted that these initiatives are part of Malaysia's economic strength and must be prioritized in the government's policies. The program aligns with Kesuma's objectives to develop a more inclusive labor market, enhance workforce skills, and ensure economic and technological changes generate more opportunities for the people.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced six immediate initiatives for the people, including fuel subsidies, school maintenance, AI, medical digitalization, e-Invoicing, and micro-business financing. For the AI Programme for the People, Anwar said that upon completing the prescribed modules, youths would receive free three-month subscriptions to AI applications such as IlmuChat, Gemini Enterprise, Wonderclip, and MuleRun.

Anwar also announced the restoration of the basic quota for Budi Madani RON95 (Budi95) program from 200 liters to 300 liters per month, with more than half a million eligible diesel-powered vehicle owners receiving up to 400 liters of Budi Diesel per month. Ramanan emphasized that these initiatives reflect the government's comprehensive approach to ensuring the benefits of economic growth are felt by various segments of society, particularly low- and middle-income workers, gig workers, the self-employed, small traders, and women generating income from home.

He stressed that inclusive development means the country's progress leaves no one behind, and the fruits of economic growth can benefit all workers, aligning with the government's leadership under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
