‘A bus was swept away 15 minutes later’: Survivors recount narrow escapes from Nepal floods

Survivors of the recent Nepal floods recounted harrowing tales of narrowly escaping death as they returned home to West Bengal, Maharashtra, and Kerala. Anukul Poddar, from West Bengal's Basirhat, shared how his group was traveling from Kathmandu to Rasuwa when their buses were halted due to a landslide warning. As the driver informed them of the impending danger, they watched in horror as a massive cloud of debris flowed down the river. The driver quickly escorted them back to Kathmandu, where they safely reached their hotel.

In Nagpur, a woman from Maharashtra expressed her gratitude to the state government for helping her family return from Nepal. She recounted how another bus was swept away mere minutes before their own vehicle passed by. She emphasized the family's luck in escaping the disaster and thanked Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for facilitating their return.

Meanwhile, in Kerala's Kasaragod, a group of five Malayali tourists recounted the terrifying experience of seeing buildings, trees, people, and vehicles being swept away by the floodwaters. They followed the crowds to lower ground and witnessed a dam breach upstream. Social media later revealed that a flash flood had struck the area. The group eventually diverted their bus into a forest area, where they faced repeated breakdowns, fearing they would not be able to return home.
