6 waiver wire targets that would make sense for the Patriots

On Monday, NFL teams trimmed their rosters down to 53 players, placing many transactions with fewer than four accrued seasons on the waiver wire. The New England Patriots, who have the 31st spot in the waiver claim priority, currently have a full roster. However, they continue to search for depth upgrades. Here are six potential targets that would make sense for the Patriots:

1. WR/KR Charlie Jones: The Patriots are well-stocked with wide receivers, but they failed to find a suitable kick returner this offseason. Jones has proven himself as a dynamic returner for the Bengals over the past three years, including scoring two kick return touchdowns. While the Patriots may choose to keep their seven wide receivers, Jones' return skills could be a valuable addition.

2. CB Kani Walker: The Patriots initially kept six cornerbacks on their 53-man roster, with rookies Karon Prunty and Channing Canada included. However, the group's performance was inconsistent during the summer. In the AFC East, Bills cornerback Kani Walker was a surprise cut after a strong preseason. 4. Edge Sam Williams: The 27-year-old Williams has recorded 9.5 sacks across three seasons as a rotational pass rusher for the Cowboys. Despite these setbacks, Williams' physical and violent skill set could be attractive to New England. However, he needs to improve his discipline.

5. DL Joshua Weru and Uar Bernard: During joint practices and a preseason game, the Patriots observed the Eagles' roster, including International Player Pathway Program players Weru and Bernard. Weru recorded a sack during the preseason game against New England, while Bernard is a physically gifted interior defensive lineman. Both players have intriguing skill sets that may appeal to the Patriots as they search for depth upgrades.
