23 injured after tour bus turns on its side at roundabout near Sibu

Twenty-three passengers aboard a tour bus were injured when the vehicle overturned at a roundabout near Sibu, Sarawak, in the early hours of this morning. The bus was traveling on the Pan Borneo Highway when it spun out of control and landed on its side at the Kanowit/Durin intersection. Sarawak fire and rescue officials were alerted to the accident at 2.25am, with firefighters from Sibu rushing to the scene 22 kilometers away.

Of the 23 injured, 19 were women. Firefighters managed to extricate a woman who remained trapped inside the bus, while others were helped to safety by civilians who had arrived on the scene prior to the arrival of the rescue team. The injured were initially treated at the scene before being transported to Sibu Hospital and Kanowit Hospital for additional medical attention.

The roundabout where the collision occurred had previously been the site of a fatal accident in March 2025, involving Sarabah State Courts director Marutin Pagan.
