23 injured after tour bus turns on its side at roundabout near Sibu

A tour bus carrying 43 passengers overturned and rolled onto its side at the Kanowit/Durin roundabout near Sibu, Sarawak, early this morning, injuring 23 of the passengers. The incident occurred on the Pan Borneo Highway at around 2:25am when a fire and rescue department spokesperson received an emergency call. Twenty-nine firefighters from Sibu rushed to the scene, 22 kilometers away.

Of the 23 injured, 19 were women. Initially, firefighters assisted in removing a woman still inside the bus to safety, while bystanders helped the others. Affected passengers received immediate medical attention at the accident scene before being transported to Sibu Hospital and Kanowit Hospital for further treatment. The accident site shares proximity with the location where Sabah State Courts director Marutin Pagan tragically lost his life in a separate accident on March 30, 2025.
