17 bodies found in UP’s Gandak; search for Nepal flood victims continues

Seventeen bodies, likely the victims of Nepal's flash floods, have been recovered from the Gandak river in Uttar Pradesh, while over 2,500 people remain unaccounted for in the disaster that has taken more than 700 lives. Thirteen bodies were found in Kushinagar's Khadda and Tamkuhi Raj tehsils, with four of those discovered on Monday.

An additional four were recovered from Maharajganj's Nichlaul tehsil on August 27. Families in Nepal flocked to hospitals on Sunday, searching for missing relatives as rescuers continued their efforts to clear mud and debris. Four unidentified bodies were handed over to Nepal authorities on Monday for identification. The district magistrate, Gaurav Singh Sogarwal, stated that the bodies, including three women, would remain in the mortuary for a mandatory 72-hour period before DNA samples were taken for identification purposes.
