Watkins joins Saudis Al Hilal from Villa

England forward Ollie Watkins has transferred from Aston Villa to join Saudi club Al Hilal, according to the Saudi club's announcement on Sunday. The move is reportedly for a fee of £50 million (US$68 million), following Villa's acquisition of Senegal forward Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea.

30-year-old Watkins has agreed to a three-year contract with Al Hilal and will be eligible to play in their league match against Al Ahli, scheduled for Tuesday. The Saudi club's roster includes former Ballon d'Or winner Karim Benzema and Crysencio Summerville, who signed from West Ham earlier this transfer window.

Watkins, who has scored seven goals in 24 appearances for England, had been criticized by Aston Villa coach Unai Emery for refusing to play in their recent 4-0 defeat to Brighton, as he sought to force a move to Al Hilal. However, Emery later expressed no ill will towards Watkins, stating that the player is "fantastic" and that one mistake should not overshadow his overall positive contributions to the club.

Prior to his time at Villa, Watkins started his career at Exeter City in League Two, before moving to Championship side Brentford. He then joined Aston Villa, where he spent six successful seasons, including winning the Europa League last season.
