US sanctions are hurting Iran, but economic collapse alone may not topple regime, expert says

US sanctions are significantly damaging Iran's capacity to generate hard currency and maintain economic stability, according to Professor Uzi Rabi. However, Rabi cautioned against the assumption that an economic collapse would automatically lead to the downfall of the regime. The Moshe Dayan Center for Middle Eastern and African Studies head at Tel Aviv University discussed the US economic war against Iran with Barak Seri and Eli Ohana on 103FM radio.

Rabi stated that while the blockade is theoretically effective, its success depends on factors such as China, Turkey, and Pakistan's willingness to restrict Iran. He noted that Iran has been forced to operate with fewer and fewer dollars, making it difficult to maintain agriculture and industry. Rabi emphasized that the regime's survival relies not only on its economic state but also on internal geopolitical factors.

He warned against relying solely on diplomatic agreements, as the threat extends beyond Israel to the entire free world. Rabi acknowledged that removing the regime would be a significant blessing for global security, but it would not be a simple task.
