US deports relative of Afghans who aided military to Africa

The U.S. government has deported a young Afghan man, along with 11 others, to the Central African Republic, according to the administration of President Donald Trump. The Afghan individual, whose identity is known as Khalil, had family members who cooperated with U.S. military forces during his country's conflict, as confirmed by his lawyer, Alma David, and various advocacy organizations.

Court documents revealed that Khalil's family faced threats from the Taliban due to his brothers' involvement in supporting U.S. troops. The deportation occurred on a flight that also carried 8 Iranians, as well as individuals from Nepal and Nicaragua. This marked the third such deportation from the U.S. to the Central African Republic this year, noted Human Rights First.

The move follows a pattern of agreements under which the Trump administration has sent thousands of people to third countries with no familial connections, part of their broader immigration enforcement strategy. The State Department has issued a travel advisory warning citizens against visiting the Central African Republic due to safety concerns including civil unrest, crime, and potential terrorism.
