Ukraine is testing four new drone interceptors as Russia floods its skies with faster Gerans

Ukraine is in the midst of testing four new drone interceptors designed to counter Russia's increasingly frequent use of faster jet-powered Geran attack drones, according to Ukrainian Defense Minister Yevhen Khmara. Russia has significantly ramped up its use of these faster drones, particularly targeting Ukrainian cities, causing substantial damage and resulting in numerous civilian casualties.

These attacks are placing immense pressure on Ukraine's air defenses. All four interceptor systems have undergone field testing, with the Defense Minister stating that the goal is to bring them to the required level as swiftly as possible and scale production to thousands of units.

Ukrainian defense technology adviser Serhii "Flash" Beskrestnov revealed that Russia has used over 2,500 jet-powered Gerans against Ukraine in August, a sharp increase from about 1,500 in July. These drones are launched almost directly from Russian factories, indicating a rapid expansion in their production and deployment. In response to these threats, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has prioritized countering the Gerans, urging faster production of domestic weapons and emphasizing the need to enhance Ukraine's long-range strikes against Russia.

Zelenskyy highlighted that Russia employs a tactic of keeping Kyiv and other cities under constant air raid alerts, with Gerans reaching the capital and cities like Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia.
