This development comes after Iran retaliated by targeting US forces stationed in Jordan, as reported by a Fox News correspondent, who cited an unnamed US source.

While the majority of incoming projectiles have been intercepted thus far, officials noted that there have been no significant repercussions so far. The official confirmed the earlier strikes on the two Iranian launchers on Larak Island, adding that Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces were seen preparing to launch rockets with sea mines into the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards claimed the attack resulted in casualties among soldiers and civilians, threatening a response and punishment from Tehran, as reported by Iranian state media. Tasnim news agency, a semi-official Iranian outlet, reported a US drone strike on Larak Island. President Donald Trump had recently assured the public that all mines had been detonated or removed from the international waters of the Strait of Hormuz, warning that any ship or vessel placing new mines would face destruction.

The last documented US strikes on Iran occurred in late July, as the prolonged war entered a stalemate phase with Washington threatening to impose significant sanctions on nations supporting Iran. The ongoing conflict between the US and Iran, which began on February 28, has claimed the lives of 18 US service members and displaced millions of people, resulting in thousands of casualties in the region.

The war has led to a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, once a crucial route for about a fifth of the global oil supply. Iranian forces launched ballistic missiles at the US base, as per Axios.
