Two suspects arrested, hotel property recovered after Homa Bay Tourist Hotel attack

Police in Homa Bay have arrested two men and recovered stolen property following an attack at the Homa Bay Tourist Hotel on August 15. The suspects were apprehended on Saturday evening after a raid by police and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), following a tip-off. The raid took place at a rental house in Homa Bay Town.

The attack involved the vandalism of the hotel and the theft of various items, which occurred ahead of a rally by the Linda Mwananchi brigade. The clashes that ensued resulted in at least five deaths and 50 injuries. Among the recovered items were seven wooden hotel dining chairs, two blue high-density mattresses, an office stamp, a black rhino sculpture, and a subwoofer music system.

Other recovered items included a freezer, wall clocks, electrical sockets, a telephone receiver, a car air conditioning component, a phone, and bed sheets. The suspects were booked on charges of robbery with violence and are set to appear before the Homa Bay Law Courts on Monday. This development is a significant step in the ongoing investigation into the August 15 incident, with detectives still working to identify and gather information on other potential suspects involved.

The arrest of the two men has garnered public attention, but the incident has also faced criticism for alleged interference from the political class, as well as accusations of bias by the police.
