Two relief centres opened after Kota Kinabalu fire tragedy leaves 200 victims homeless

KOTA KINABALU, Aug 30 — In the aftermath of a devastating fire that claimed the lives of three children and left over 200 others homeless in Kampung Lok Buta, temporary relief centres have been established at Dewan Kampung Likas and Dewan Damai. Kota Kinabalu City Hall declared the area a disaster zone following the incident. Minister Datuk Mustapha Sakmud stated that the centres would aid in the registration of victims, distribution of donations, and coordination of relief efforts.

He emphasized the urgency of identifying affected students to prevent any disruption to their education. A meeting has been proposed between the Prime Minister, the Chief Minister, and relevant agencies to discuss measures for supporting those impacted by the disaster.
