Argentina goalkeeper Emi Martinez expressed his delight at joining Chelsea, rejecting multiple other offers in favor of the Premier League club. The World Cup winner completed a £7.5m move from Aston Villa after a change of heart by club officials following a lackluster performance from Robert Sanchez in the opening Premier League game against Fulham.

Martinez, who had been linked with a return to Juventus earlier in the transfer window, had been pushing for a move away from Aston Villa all summer. His decision to sign with Chelsea came after he was offered a contract extension by the London club and was eager to play under renowned coach Xabi Alonso.
