NPFL: Referees urged to apply laws without fear

The Nigeria Football Referees’ Association (NFRA) has called upon the arbiters of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) to strictly follow the laws of the game as the new season commences. NFRA Acting President Sir Kelechi Mejuobi conveyed this message to the match officials ahead of the 2026-27 NPFL campaign. Mejuobi emphasized that a proper understanding and implementation of the laws is crucial for advancing domestic football.

He stated, "With the desire to reform Nigeria football and place it properly, especially now we have a title sponsor, what is expected of us is to officiate in accordance with the laws of the game and adhere to competition rules." Mejuobi reiterated that their role is to officiate impartially, "without fear or favour, as long as it equates to what the 17 Laws of the Game say."

He further highlighted that referees and their assessors have undergone training to fulfill the association's responsibilities. Mejuobi also cautioned unauthorized individuals to refrain from accessing restricted areas, such as referees' dressing rooms, before, during, and after matches.
