이진숙, “광주사태는 폭동” 영상 퍼날라…민주 “반드시 책임 물을 것”

National Assembly member 이진숙 recently shared a video on social media platform SNS stating that the 5·18 democratic movement was a "trivial matter" and almost a riot. Progressive Party has vowed to hold the responsible party accountable to the end. On the previous day, a motion demanding this member's expulsion from the National Assembly was passed by the Democratic Party.

The video shared by the member was uploaded to YouTube TV channel on the same day under the title "Even if 이진숙 is expelled, 광주 무장 투쟁 cannot be denied." In the video, the member called the 5·18 democratic movement a "riot" and accused the military of opposing their attempts. Similar claims were made in the forum held in the National Assembly last 13th, where the speaker called the 1980 광주 사태 a "trivial matter" and claimed that the spirit of 광주 is a mix of regional color, fantastically unified, and materialistic desires, leading to a whirlwind of denial and neglect.

The member's speech also echoed accusations of treason and murder in connection with the 12·12 military coup and the 5·18 democratic movement. The video shared by the member also claimed that the 5·18 special law led to a false outbreak due to "그 선포는 (이희성) 계엄사령관과 당시 대통령 최규하가 한 것" and accused the member of trying to start a rebellion on 10·26, the date of Kim Jea-geu's assassination in 1979.

The Democratic Party vowed to hold the member accountable to the end for spreading videos that distort history and incite coup.
