Sooryavanshi takes charge as East Zone captain in Duleep semis after Kishan injury

Fifteen-year-old cricket sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made history by becoming the first teenager to captain a senior team during the Duleep Trophy semi-final on Sunday. The youngster, named vice-captain for the match, temporarily took charge when captain Ishan Kishan had to leave the field due to a finger injury. Kishan was treated for a hand injury, and Sooryavanshi stepped up to lead the East Zone team in the tournament.

The incident occurred during the 19th over of Central Zone’s innings when Kishan, keeping wickets, was struck on his left hand by a ball bowled by Abhijit Sarkar. Despite receiving immediate attention from the team physios, Kishan eventually had to walk off the field, leaving Kumar Kushagra to take over as wicketkeeper. Sooryavanshi, who recently won the U19 World Cup in Zimbabwe and Namibia, was entrusted with leading a side with more experienced players.

This marked a significant milestone in his rapidly growing cricket career, as he continues to make rapid progress at such a young age.
