'Something unprecedented' - Nepalese man on flash floods

A Nepalese man living in Dublin, Mahesh Kushwaha, has described the recent flash floods in his home country as unprecedented. The infrastructure in Kathmandu, already strained, is facing significant challenges. Initially, Kushwaha believed the incidents were monsoon floods, but upon viewing the footage, he realized the scale and destruction were unlike anything he had witnessed before.

The death toll from the floods, which occurred last week, has risen to 797, with over 3,000 people still unaccounted for. In Nepal, 781 people have died, and 2,502 are missing as rescue efforts continue. Chinese officials reported 16 deaths and 546 missing in Tibet, raising the overall toll. The areas most affected are remote, making it difficult for rescue teams to reach those in need.

While some may view the government's response as a publicity stunt, Kushwaha believes the government and international community are positively engaged in the relief efforts, with billions of dollars being donated. He also notes that Nepal, a small contributor to global carbon emissions, is one of the most vulnerable nations to climate change.
