Ghanaian singer Sista Afia has called on her fellow musicians to prioritize the cleanliness of microphones used during live shows, suggesting they disinfect shared equipment before use. "I'm going to say something controversial, but my fellow artists need to hear this. PLEASE DISINFECT THE MIC BEFORE YOU PUT YOUR MOUTH ON IT!" she wrote.

Sista Afia pointed out that musicians frequently transition between performances, utilizing the same microphones that have been handled by multiple artists. These microphones can come in contact with the mouths of different individuals during performances due to the act of singing, talking, and breathing into them. To address this concern, she proposed that artists carry disinfectant sprays or wipes specifically designed for microphone use in their bags.

Additionally, those with the financial means could consider bringing their own microphones for performances as an extra safety measure.
