Sarawak minister instructs authorities to monitor Sibu boy's death case

Sibu: Sarawak Women, Children, and Community Wellbeing Minister Fatimah Abdullah will direct the Social Welfare Department and Early Childhood Development Division to keep a close eye on the case involving a boy allegedly slashed to death last Friday. The intention is to guarantee that the family affected by the devastating event receives the necessary welfare aid and psychological support.

Expressing deep sorrow and shock, Fatimah conveyed her condolences to the victim's family, emphasizing that no child should ever be a victim of violence. She lamented the loss of a child as a profoundly painful tragedy for any family. The minister was informed that police inquiries are ongoing, with a suspect currently in custody.

She implored all parties to permit the police to conduct a thorough and transparent probe without interference. Additionally, Fatimah requested the public to refrain from disseminating unverified information, images, or conjectures, as such actions could exacerbate the family's anguish and potentially hinder the investigation. For now, she implored the community to pray for the victim's family and those impacted by this tragic loss, offering them strength and resilience.

A five-year-old boy perished after allegedly being slashed in an incident at a residence in Jalan Rantau Panjang Jaya last Friday. Sibu district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad, disclosed that a man in his late 40s had been held for six days until September 4 and that the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
