Salisu turns to CAF Confed Cup after opening win

Shooting Stars coach Salisu Yusuf has redirected his focus to the CAF Confederation Cup following his team's 2-1 win over Inter Lagos in the inaugural match of the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League. The victory, achieved by goals from Lucky Emmanuel and Sodiq Ibrahim, marked the team's first opening-day triumph in three years at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.

Lucky put Shooting Stars ahead in the 14th minute, but Inter Lagos' Uchenna Njoku equalized seven minutes later. Despite close calls, Shooting Stars secured the lead on the half-time whistle. A penalty converted by Sodiq Ibrahim in the second half ensured the win. Yusuf acknowledged that the match would also aid his players' match fitness ahead of their continental encounter against CS Sfaxien next Saturday.

The coach hinted at the potential addition of former Rivers United goalkeeper Victor Sochima to the squad for the continental campaign, praising his valuable experience.
