Red Sox's Chad Tracy Admits Difficulty In Sending Mickey Gasper, Anthony Seigler Down

The Boston Red Sox interim manager, Chad Tracy, admitted on Sunday that sending Mickey Gasper and Anthony Seigler down was a challenging decision. To make room for the return of Roman Anthony and Trevor Story, the team optioned both players. Both Gasper and Seigler had been performing exceptionally well lately, with Gasper hitting 12 times in 16 plate appearances and Seigler boasting a .906 OPS.

Tracy believed that Gasper could even win Player of the Week, but the decision to demote them was a bittersweet one. Both players had played crucial roles in the team's recent success, and Tracy had to explain their demotion to them professionally. Gasper's path back to the lineup would be difficult, as he primarily plays first base and would likely be a designated hitter.

Anthony would split time between left field and designated hitter, making it hard for Gasper to secure a spot. Seigler, meanwhile, would not see much playing time with Story back on the team. Andruw Monasterio will likely take on the majority of the work at second base, while Nick Sogard will help out. Monasterio could also start at designated hitter when Anthony is in left field, and the Red Sox wanted to ensure Duran did not play in the lineup.
